Kinsa is a thermometer company that has developed a smart phone app to help families and schools monitor illnesses. The have been providing schools with free thermometers and access to the FLUency program since 2015. It has the word "FLU" in it because it was originally created to slow the spread of influenza in schools, but has proved to be a valuable tool during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The goals of Kinsa's FLUency Program are to:
Stop illness from coming to school
Prompt families to do daily fever screenings at home using the Kinsa smart thermometer and app. (Only general illness information is sent to the school dashboard, not specific student temperatures or symptoms.)
Monitor school illness trends
Catch illness early with a school dashboard, allowing the school nurse to see general trends in illnesses. The nurse can then communicate information out to families to stop the spread.
Guidance
Stay one step ahead of illness thanks to weekly advice from a team of clinicians and real-time local illness updates. In app guidance also helps families make decisions about what do for illness symptoms or possible illness exposures.
