Public participation is encouraged. There will be a public comment period at each regular Board meeting to provide opportunities to address the Board of Education. The Board of Education asks participants who wish to speak during the public comment period identify themselves verbally and, if applicable, identify the organization they are representing so that they may be recognized by the Board President.
For clarity, we ask that all speakers identify the school-related matter/topic to be discussed. The Board of Education appreciates public attendance and participation at meetings.
Although state law does not require a Board of Education to hold a public comment period, the Hartford BOE chooses to do so because we believe it is very important for us to hear from our community members about their concerns and issues.
When making public comments at a BOE meeting, please note that the board is here to listen. The public comment period is not designed to be a discussion. Accordingly, please do not expect the board to immediately respond to your concerns and questions. The BOE will, however, respond to your questions and concerns at a future meeting, or have the proper staff member get back to you at the appropriate time.
The Board of Education would also like to point out that under state and federal privacy laws we are unable to entertain any comments or questions about school personnel. Please know, however, that we take personnel concerns very seriously. On these matters, we would ask you to go through the appropriate administrative office.
Letters To The Board of Education:
Letters must be submitted to the BOE District Clerk no later than close of business the day before the scheduled BOE meeting.
Letters submitted to the BOE will not be read in public session, but will be distributed to BOE members and entered into the official BOE record/minutes. Letters submitted to the BOE after the close of business the day before the scheduled BOE meeting will be distributed to the BOE members and entered into the official BOE record/minutes at the following month’s BOE meeting.
