Hartford Students Compete in WSWHE BOCES Battle of the Books

On March 11, 2025, 637 students from 23 local school districts gathered for the WSWHE BOCES Battle of the Books, a celebration of reading coordinated by the WSWHE BOCES School Library Systems. This year’s competition—the largest yet—featured 82 teams of students in grades 3-6, all eager to demonstrate their knowledge of 10 selected fiction and non-fiction books.

Hartford Central School proudly sent two teams to compete at SUNY Adirondack. Before departing, the students were cheered on by the elementary school in a special send-off. Both the 4th and 5th grade teams won their opening round battles before falling in two close semifinal matches. Their hard work and dedication were evident throughout the competition.

  • Grade 4 Team: Abraham Holcomb, Amaya Lunt, Evalyn Stoddard, and Sloan Truehart
