Message from Superintendent Cook

November 17, 2021

To All Parents / Guardians:

The number of COVID-positive cases in Washington County and the Hartford Central School District are continuing to rise.  In fact, the Washington County Office of Public Safety is now reporting a 7-day average positivity rate of 12.7%, which is the highest rate in New York State.

Due to the increased number of cases, the district has a large number of students who are under a mandated Department of Health quarantine and the district is continuing to contact-trace every day.

Most of the students who are required to quarantine have to do so due to an exposure on the bus. Within the building, most of the desks are more than six feet apart; as are the seats for eating during the breakfast and lunch period.  Although the students are spread out to the greatest extent possible on the bus, the Department of Health quarantine rules for school transportation are different than within a classroom and, as a result, many more students are identified as a “close contact” and required to quarantine; pending that the identified students are either unvaccinated or are vaccinated, but symptomatic.

As we move closer to the Thanksgiving holiday, I wanted to provide a couple of reminders to our families:

  • If your student is not feeling well or displaying any COVD-like symptoms, please do not send them to school. Please contact the school to inform us of their condition and, if necessary, we can work with you to provide a PCR test for your student at the school.
  • If you are able, I would encourage our parents/guardians to transport their students to and from school, and to have your age eligible students drive themselves. If you are concerned of a quarantine, especially before the Thanksgiving recess, by providing your own transportation you greatly reduce the risk of a school-based exposure or quarantine.  I completely understand that not everyone is able to self-transport and we will continue to provide school transportation.

As always, I continue to appreciate your patience and support as we work through this challenging time together.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the district at 518-632-5222.

Thank you

Andrew Cook
