BUDGET AND PROPOSITIONS APPROVED

On Tuesday May 20th, residents went to the polls to vote on the proposed 2008-09 School Budget, and three separate propositions regarding the purchase of a bus, van, and the bus garage property.

All items were approved by voters. The budget was approved 168 to 118; the purchase of a sixty-six passenger bus was approved 159 to 128; the purchase of a van was approved 171 to 117; and the bus garage property purchase was approved 190 to 96.

While no one submitted a formal petition for the board seat being vacated by Mr. Jordan, there was a contested write-in campaign. Mrs. Beth Steves received 34 votes, Sam Brayton received 4 write-in votes, Gary Burch Jr., Diane Mecure, and Kevin McCarthy each received one vote. Based on the results, Mrs. Steves was elected to the five-year term.

I wnat to thank all residents who took the time to come out and vote. Your continued support to Hartford's Educational System is greatly appreciated.

HARTFORD RECEIVES STATE RECOGNITION

On May 15th the Commissioner of Education held a press conference to recognize school districts for their results on state assessments. I am pleased to announce that Hartford was listed as a High Performing/Gap Closing School. Schools so listed are recognized because they have met all applicable State standards for English Language Arts and Math during the 2006-07 and have also made Adequate Yearly Progress in both subject areas for two consecutive years.

Our students and staff have worked hard to achieve this recognition and I would like to congratulate one and all. And a special thank you to the parents of our students who have supported their children as they progress through our system.
